I'd say that the mighty of this world most likely aren't demons themselves, but rather possessed by some malicious (or just slightly insane) spirits. However, some of them might've signed a pact with otherworldly forces beyond their comprehension. The oldest trick in the book: they've obtained an immense power, indeed. But pledged their soul in return...
They made their bed, & hopefully will be forced to lie in it. It just sucks for everybody else on this mortal plane who have to live with the consequences of their actions.
We have to stay strong regardless, as we always been!
And I was trying to say that might be the whole reason why they still don't get cursed, as their souls must be gone. At least it feels like that for me!
