Because of the ubiquity, nay, monopoly of systemd I always assumed it was miles ahead of other init systems. Nope. I've been using a non-systemd environment for a while and must say I'm surprised by how little breaks, i.e., next to nothing. Moreover, boot and shutdown times are faster. I'd suggest trying it out.

My PC needs 3 minutes to boot. ~10 seconds from kernel to getty, 10 seconds from initramfs to kernel (because it first needs to mount the USB device, extract the keyfile on it and use it), and the rest is from pressing the cases' button to actually posting because it's broken and will stuck on boot code A6 until I enter and exit the UEFI once (after a poweroff and some time sitting). Do I care? Fuck no, I spend those 3 minutes plugging in my headphones, phone and laptops.
