I love this, but for me the biggest issue is that I don't own anything on kindle. I wish there was a way to easily buy and own ebooks like they're was with songs and bandcamp

Not a lawyer, but if you've already paid for something (i.e. "bought" an eBook on Amazon), then you've done your part to ensure the creator eats tonight. Pirating a digital copy of it that you can read/move/engage with wherever you want is no longer even slightly morally questionable at that point.

i'm pretty sure it's explictly legal, lol

I would, but for the most part, most of the things I read don't seem to show up on torrent lists

I'm guessing you're looking on public trackers. Private ones like MAM, should have 90% of what you're looking for. Out of curiosity, mind posting few books you haven't been able to find?

My non exhaustive list

  • China's Back Story by Lee Moore
  • The Eagle and the Lion by Adrian Goldsworthy
  • Patriarchy Inc. by Cordelia Fine And
  • A Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey

How do you get into a private tracker?

They have interview based sign ups every week. They ask simple questions from their rules page to make sure you understand the basics of torrenting.

Look in Anna’s archives. It has everything.

I bought an old single digit version of a kindle and just use Calibre. It's pretty great.
