The profit motive is also the source of enshittification.
Meanwhile Steam is successful by just not trying to squeeze every last penny they possibly can out of you, and they have a massive grip on games. It's almost like you get more money by not pissing off the people giving you money

Not really. People like discussing video games as much as anything else. It would be nice not to have to put up with fascists and other bigots whilst doing so.
Getting out of the next quarter mindset is very hard for corpos.
