Since when did turkey support hamas?

erdogan says the right things about israel and Gaza but then does the exact opposite actions.

There are 2 parts of Hamas. There is the political and negotiating side and there is the armed resistance. They don't always walk in lock step. The leadership council are mostly based in Qatar and have often been criticized for being mealy mouthed and self serving, similar to how the PLO was taken over collaborators who became the "Palestinian" Authority.

This statement is basically a Liberal Hamas official glazing erdogan for consumption by Turkey's voters in exchange for something. That something is just as likely for the Leadership Council's personal benefit as it is for the benefit fro Palestinians.

Hence my confusion.

Perhaps Hamas is trying to goad Türkiye into taking a more proper stance but I really don't know why they decided to make this statement.

My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that the Palestinian resistance feels some amount of confidence in its ability to eventually topple the Israeli regime within the coming months of the war, and this is an attempt to develop good relations with another regional power during the initial stage of Palestinian statehood.

Again that's my tin foil hat conspiracy, but the more rational part of me just says it's probably an attempt to try getting Türkiye to become more involved in the war.
