The Greek-owned bulk carrier Giacometti has become the first vessel to transit the Strait of Hormuz with its AIS transponder active since March 2, nearly three weeks into the closure.

The ship transited around Larak Island on March 20, according to Lloyd's List Intelligence and Seasearcher tracking data.

ℹ️ Note that Lloyd’s List has already reported multiple ships using the new route Iran set up, where they undergo Iranian inspection and are then allowed to continue. The Greek vessel appears to be the first to make the transit with its transponder turned on.

The figure thats been thrown around by shipping companies is 2 million dollars, or around 10% toll. Read an analysis which said that with around 2 billion dollars of value flowing through the strait every day, this rate is basically enough to completely offset the economic sanctions. So far thai, chinese, greek and some other countries vessels have been allowed to pass.

They said they're demanding that oil be traded using other currencies than the dollar, but I'm not sure about this vessel in particular.
