Every so often i lose internet and have to restart router (sh.itjust.works)

It seems to happen maybe once a month or every 2 months. Sometimes random. Is it my ISP renewing my IP? How can I check that?

Im on all unifi hardware. Not a total noob but I struggle with the concepts.

It's more than likely the ISP itself doing maintenance. I have the same issue with Comcast, but mostly becsuse I am a night owl and am usually using the internet at 3am when they do their weekly maintenance.
