Egypt is imposing restrictions on electricity consumption due to a sharp rise in fuel prices.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced this, according to Bloomberg.

According to the agency, authorities are reducing business operations and lighting to avoid a deeper crisis. Starting March 28, shopping malls, cafes, and stores will operate on reduced hours: they will close at 9:00 PM on weekdays and at 10:00 PM on weekends.

In addition, authorities plan to turn off illuminated advertisements and reduce street lighting to a safe minimum. Government offices will remain open until 6:00 PM, and mandatory working from home one or two days a week is being considered.

"We need to start rationing the amount of fuel and electricity we use," Madbouly emphasized.

He added that these measures will be reviewed in a month and, "God willing, if the crisis ends," will be lifted.
