This is self inflicted pain. They are so used to extremely cheap gas that they don't even consider efficiency when making or buying a car. Now that gas prices are a bit less cheap (mind you, having gas under 1€/lt is still insanely cheap), they cry because their gas guzzling trucks won't even start without eating 5 lt of gas.
Meanwhile, in the civilized world, where gas prices have been high for years, people have cars that run with much less gas per km and many are even passing to EVs because yeah, 2€/lt have been the normal price for a while now.
But hey, let's cry, because poor usians have to pay (the horror!!): around $1/lt of gas!!!
