Always wondered what those were for.
As a wheelchair user, I will come out and say that I have used one - bedside, after my amputation, when it was difficult to get around. I handled changing out the baggie myself. It wasn't pleasant, but it's miles better than a bedpan (which I have thankfully not had to ever use).
Still a wheelchair users for reasons not worth going into at the moment, but I can transfer and use a walker to go a very short distance. But I can't get up from a low toilet. Those come with a removable bucket so they can sit over a regular toilet giving you a higher seat.
I dislike having to use it, but it's not very unpleasant. And it allows me to be independent in one more little way.
So these are used in various cases where mobility to a bathroom is not possible, or in cases where using a toilet as-is as not possible.
Not necessarily happy to say I use one, but I believe information like this helps others treat folks like me with disabilities as more human, understanding some things we go through.
