Where? I've seen pics online of couples dressed as them and posts saying they want to have the kind of love Woody and Jessie have with a romantic partner. They're acting like they're inspired by this great love story that never remotely happened.
I also remember telling someone when Toy Story 4 came out that Woody was going to be reunited with his girlfriend, and they thought I meant Jessie.
Just today I saw some posts on Facebook claiming the two are actually siblings, and lots of comments are claiming that makes them incestuous. It's possible they're trolling but I doubt every one of them is trolling, it seems there are some people who genuinely remember them as a couple
Where does this come from? The fact that they're both cowboys? That seems a bit racist, to just assume the two characters with the most superficial thing in common are romantically involved.
These are popular movies, I would have thought the people talking about them would have actually watched them and watched them recently. I can kind of see if these movies are just a hazy memory they haven't watched since they were kids but the movies are popular enough that surely people are watching them currently. And the fourth movie isn't very old at this point.
Woody was always, from the first movie, romantically involved with Bo Peep. Though Bo isn't in the third movie, the fourth and most recent movie freaking revolves around his relationship with Bo. Jessie is romantically involved with Buzz at the end of the second film and throughout the third. Their relationship weirdly isn't mentioned in the fourth movie, which is one of many problems I have with the fourth movie. Weird they made a whole movie to reunite Woody with Bo and just completely ignored Jessie and Buzz's relationship.
Anyway, at absolutely no point was there anything romantic between Woody and Jessie. Where does that even come from? Just because they're both cowboys? Did these people not even watch the films?
Same way people ship Woody and Buzz. Personal preference.
Yeah but this isn't just shipping, it's somehow remembering them as a couple when it never happened
Oh that's just long term memory storage using reasonable inputs for retrieval purposes. We get screwed over by that all the time.
I guess that's what causes the Mandela effect. I've also talked to two seperate people who thought that on MASH, Margaret and Winchester were a couple at some point and I don't know where that comes from either
On Winchester, that comes from him taking over the position as the show's nuisance. After replacing Burns and briefly attempting a romance with Margaret (didn't work out btw), he was set as the figurative cuckoo's egg in the memory nest. Burns was forgotten as an unimportant detail and most of his attributes were pasted on Winchester.
And unlike his predecessor, Winchester grew as a person.
Also, speaking of MASH, can you still remember and differentiate Hawkeye's partners in crime?
Hawkeye's first partner in crime was Trapper and the second one was BJ. both were married. Trapper had two daughters. BJ had a baby daughter. Their personalities were similar but BJ was loyal to his wife, unlike Trapper.
Of course, if you asked me about a specific storyline involving Trapper or BJ, there's a good chance I might get them mixed up
The first time I only saw episodes whenever i had time, so some were skipped. Which is why when Trapper and BJ swapped, my first thought was where did the guy's curly hair go. I didn't realize it was someone else entirely and it took another episode's intro to make me realize it.
Then of course over time there were plenty of reruns and i managed to see all of them. I also can't tell the details, but the main points remain. I'd say it's a matter of attention and repetition to maintain the memories otherwise they fade away or blend into mush.
