Sentient just means aware of one's existence. More or less. E.g. all mamals are sentient. The orange idiot falls into this category (or partly).

Sapience means to be able to think and reason.

For a split second I thought "orange idiot" was referring to my red mackerel tabby and the world was a brighter place
