General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

For the Conservatives, meanwhile, the result confirmed the party has collapsed in areas where Reform is performing strongly. The 1.9% won by their candidate, Charlotte Cadden, is the party’s worst byelection result in history, and marks only the second time the party has lost its deposit in a vote by polling under 5% since 1962.

I feel that this bit is worth a mention too. Incredible that the party that won a landslide victory 2 general elections ago fucked up this badly.

My friend pointed out that this puts the Conservatives on the same tier of success in this election as the Monster Raving Loony Party, and I find that hilarious

God Bless the Monster Raving Loony Party for knowingly sacrificing their election registration fee, as they always do. If they hadn't run, who would be the bar at the bottom who would underscore how far the Tories have fallen

I've spent my entire life hating the Tories, and whilst it seems like reform are an even bigger threat, it's good to enjoy this little moment of schadenfreude.
