Social media + smaller quote posts and analysis from your substack about something relevant to recent topics; there's no foolproof way not to look like a spammer, so just be honest and accept it and others will accept it too if they feel you genuinely contributing something (admittedly, a big if). We live under capitalism, there is no escaping it without revolution.
I would write for the purpose of writing but if you want to monetise it to get an income (which may you want to do, it's tough out there) then things may inevitably become a bit complicated/mucky.
(The acadaemia stuff was also to help hone one's craft, one can easily get the equivalent of an almost degree with self education these days)
