James Cook was an English “explorer” who mostly sailed across the Pacific Ocean, claiming new territory for the British Empire. He was the first European to discover Australia.

He was a classic European colonizer who butchered native people wherever he went: Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. This is a painting of him being killed by Hawaiians defending their homeland on February 14, 1779

The first European to discover Australia was William Janszoon (Dutch). James Cook was the first Brit to do so.
