According to prosecutors, Ding copied internal technical documents while also pursuing roles and venture funding connected to Chinese companies and his own start-up, Rongshu.

Come on guy, get the info and get out of the country...

He got greedy and complacent. He forgot that corruption/crime is far more risky if you try to steal from well connected oligarch gangs.

Running away to China would have been a far smarter move. That's one place were American entities can't reach you no matter what (I believe China didn't do anything about local Fentanyl precursor suppliers until the issue became high level).
