No, the genesis is at least as old as Ottoman imperialism.

How so? Ottoman imperialism over the region did not significantly alter the proportion of demographics in Palestine, which remained a mixed Jewish-Christian-Muslim population of majority Arabic extraction, as it had been before Ottoman control.
