This study looks questionable.

Sham TNS delivered 30 seconds of stimulation per hour at lower frequency and pulse width

It seems just as likely that TNS isn't particularly sensitive to the frequency and pulse width.

It also looks like a lot of the researchers have funding from pharmaceutical companies.

In this case sham is British for placebo. Only the control group got the “sham tns”.

I realise that, my point is that the "sham TNS" may be acting as active TNS.
