why don’t these people just put their kid up for adoption? i can accept someone not wanting to be a parent… but other people do! why torture a child to death?
and how do psychopaths find each other?
i just want to know what kind of fucked up psychology would make someone do that… and continue to do that

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're not wrong, but the adoption system is fucked. You can have as many children as you want, and you MIGHT lose them if people notice their care is poor. You have to jump through so many hoops to adopt.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

you can become a foster parent a lot easier… problem is everyone wants to adopt babies

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

and alot of t hem seem to be exploited too.

i was a foster kid once… my ex wife was a foster kid her whole childhood… i’ve lived on the streets and met several foster kid runaways
we definitely need more sane, well adjusted, foster parents… foster homes (formerly orphanages) are pretty terrible.
many foster parents just foster kids for the extra money….
it seems like there’s zero hoops to being a foster parent… tons of hoops to adopt a baby.
a lot of times beings foster parent is temporary.
with me, my father was crazy and my mother was put in jail for “child stealing” me and my brother to escape my crazy father… so the court put us in foster care temporarily.
i don’t know if they abused us, but they did shave our heads for no good reason.

Unfortunately, there's still hoops to jump through to be a foster parent, many of which are subjective assessments. It's really easy for shitty people to pretend to be whatever the assessment person is looking for when they're motivated by money and lack morals. It's a lot harder when you make an effort to be genuine and the assessment person doesn't like some way in which you don't match the mold they're wanting. I know a couple who tried to jump through the hoops to adopt a 16yo queer kid. Amazing parents. The person who interviewed them was very conservative Christian and didn't like that they planned to respect the kid's identity. Needless to say, they didn't get approved as foster parents.

its far more for adoption, the legit way. thats why people that are likely to abuse or choose a "puppy" baby goes to asia for easy adoptions. of course single men are less likely to be able to adopt because of the pedophelia potential/baggage associated with.

i wonder if that was the 16 year old queer kid who ran away from the foster home who asked if he could sleep next to us for safety….
we were just drunk, and apparently not scary….
i wonder about him sometimes, he told me his story….
what really sucks is those kids are super afraid of the police, because they’ll be instantly arrested and brought back to the foster home in virginia or wherever.
and then people like me want to help, but also don’t want to get charged for corrupting some runaway kid (we let him sleep next to us, he was gone before we woke up… and no i didn’t give him alcohol or anything)
i’ve met probably 5 different minor foster runaways in my days being homeless… well probably a lot more at the rainbow gathering (it’s a hippie gathering not a gay one, they started before the rainbow flag thing was a thing… but there are plenty of gay people there)

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

potential neglect is possible more common than actual abuse.

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Probably not psychopaths. Probably, poor and uneducated who have lived a life of trauma. If you really want to know understand, get out and volunteer or work in social welfare.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

i’ve seen the dirty underbelly of society… that doesn’t explain doing that to a kid

[–] duncan_bayne@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Probably, poor and uneducated

I've known a lot of poor and uneducated people in my time, and last I checked, none of them did that to a kid.

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

Did I say all poor and uneducated people do that? No, I didn’t.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

its probably harder to do than you thought, you have go through the court system. also they might find neglect and get charged while in court, and can take some time to "disown" a child.

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They get government money per kid.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works -3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

seems like a racist assumption to make….
they had 3 other kids they didn’t do that to

observing apparent injuries and signs of severe malnourishment

they tortured that one kid and starved him

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (3 children)

They never mentioned race in their comment. White people have just as much capacity to be absolute shit-heads as black people, as Asian, as Native American, as anyone. Being a piece of shit isn't exclusive to a single race.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

to be fair its also a blanket assumption that you think other races are like tha ttoo without evidence. majority of adopters, foster homers are white people, they have that saviour fetish. Pocs are less likely to adopt than whites are.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

well i assume they looked at the article

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 16 hours ago

Do you truly not see how you assuming my comment was about race reveals your inner racism?

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're the one who brought up race out of nowhere.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They get government money per kid.

is a racist stereotype, the parents are black.
the article said nothing about their income.
it’s not that fucking complicated.

you racist piece of shit

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I didn't know they were black. But you clearly do, and you are projecting your racism hard.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

so you can’t see the thumbnail for the article? you didn’t open the article with clear pictures of the parents you’re talking about?
i know the racist online troll pattern:

  1. say racist shit on
  2. accuse the people who notice you’re a racist piece of shit of being racist
  3. ???
  4. goon to hentai

you’re fooling nobody.

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No I only load the text scraped from the article, and only read the first few paragraphs. I knew only they were from Louisiana.

That is way too specific not to be projection. You clearly have some deep seated racism, and some other issues you need some help with.

[–] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

accusing people of things that they accuse you of is peewee herman level genius, you racist piece of shit

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 22 hours ago

Why would you bring Peewee Herman into this? Being compared to him is an honor. If you're insulting him...

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

Every accusation from you bigots is an admission. Its a pattern.
