Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Why do these cameras not have a feature to auto upload or stream to a remote storage? They could easily use Wifi direct and send it to a hidden drive.

You can do some stuff like that, but camera firmware is pretty far behind the curve in terms of features. Add to that the fact that camera batteries die pretty quickly during use, and most people keep the wireless features turned off to conserve battery. Especially in a situation like this where stopping to charge/swap batteries leaves you vulnerable (if you even get a good chance), it's unlikely that anyone makes that trade.

Because you don't usually have a stable internet connection in the middle of a protest? And because that's not a very useful way to accomplish what you're trying to do
