I could literally bike across the Great Plains faster than a train and save enough money to buy a new bike. You first have to take the train to California, then to Oregon, and back halfway across the country.

That assumes the trains will all run on time in the first place and not get delayed for hours or days by snow or freight trains that have priority access to rails but lets be real here probably shouldn't.

I need a grandpa hat that says "Chicagoland rail commuting veteran". It was 50/50 whether a freight train delay would add 30min to my 1hr train ride, and I think I could actually do that commute in a similar time on an ebike.
