High Street shops, pharmacies and music venues have called on Rachel Reeves to axe the looming increases to business rates for them as well as pubs.

The government is expected to announce a climbdown on the increases to business rates bills faced by pubs in England in the coming days.

What is it with pubs and politicians. I get they are culturally significant but you’d think they are the only place people go outside of home and work in the uk with how they always make exceptions for them.

I feel like you can’t cut rates for pubs and not for cafes, for example, as there’s hardly anyone kicking off ant an costa and needing the police to show up.
