I don't think the 'leave early' messaging from the fire services is really getting through. People seem to interpret it more as 'wait around at home watching until the fire is at your doorstep, then start packing things into your car to leave at the most dangerous possible time'. I don't understand. Am I reading different material to everyone else? Are you guys seeing the 'leave early' messages or 'wait until you are on fire' messages?

The Darwin Awards exist for a reason I reckon.

I mean I have the Vic emergency app and listen to ABC Radio so it seems pretty clear. But I dunno...I know a few people who really should be across it (i.e. in catastrophic fire areas) that just didnt seem to know? One older mate in particular that really should know better. But I grew up with cyclones and some people just never cared then - couldn't wait till go sightseeing through floodwaters. So just how it is I guess?

I've been watching today and been wondering about you and your colleagues. It must be extra shit for you to see people do the whole "Yeah, nah" until it's too late and then panic. On the flip side, know there are people 70km+ away who have their bags packed and plans ready for action!

My mother is a "wait until it's too late person" and I've flat out told her she's choosing to die - it still doesn't matter. Like newly licensed drivers who think they're invincible until it happens to them.

Got some fiery mates who were telling me about where they can be allocated to if needed and learned some cool facts about the Langy station!
