A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Underwear offers a barrier that keeps residual urine and feces particals from absorbing directly into your pants.

People that dont wear underwear let their bodily fluids make direct contact with their pants, and then expose them directly to any surfaces their bits might touch.

Not wearing underwear is unhygienic.

Oh homie, everyone is covered in pee and poo particles every time they flush a toilet. Also, urine doesn't just magically stop at the undies, it absorbs into pants too.

Humans are animals, and we are constantly exposed to pathogens and waste just like all the other animals. Wash your hands before you eat, and keep your food contact surfaces clean. Beyond that, don't worry too much about all the incidental contamination you run into, it's largely out of your control and knowledge anyway.

I see posts like OPs, and hear people saying such things IRL, and I always think, "This person would straight die in a week if they faced the most minimal survival situation."

Eh, I don't think it's quite that serious lol. People become germaphobic for a ton of different reasons. I still have a really heavy impulse to wash my hands after touching surfaces due to covid, for instance.

Severe or unexpected illnesses experienced by a person or seen in their family can cause a lot of trauma. With the US healthcare and work system being as awful as it is, it's not really irrational to be driven to being overly cautious. I think that as long as people aren't having anxiety problems or compulsions that impact their quality of life, being a little too cautious like OP is pretty benign.
