I thought the section about how norms can counteract centralisation was interesting. It reminds me of Fabio Landini's "cultural subsidy" idea, also discussed here (Invidious).

I'm increasingly thinking that technical solutions are insufficient to prevent centralisation of open networks - perhaps the only foolproof way is for a large enough proportion of the user base to see it as important.
