They don’t celebrate Hanukkah in Israel?
Hanukah is a traditional, albeit minor, Jewish holiday, it is mainly celebrated in the US to stop Jewish kids from getting jealous of their Christian peers getting to celebrate Christmas.
"Everyone I've met" (I have been to Israel a few times over my lifetime, but I haven't talked to anyone from there recently)
