I know this is a strange request, and a strange choice of community; however, I have an old Pixel C running Lineage, and Summit won't install on it because the Play store version doesn't support Android 8, which is the last version of Lineage available for this old tablet.

Since I can't run Summit on my Pixel C, what are Summit fans' second choices from among the dozen Lemmy apps? Most available of f-droid will still install on 8.

I used Voyager for a long while before switching to Summit; it works less well with Piefed, but it'll install on the tablet. Thunder, Blorp, Jerboa, and Interstellar are all also available for Android 8, as are Racoon and Eternity. Summit isn't available on f-droid, sadly.

Anyhoo, thanks for your opinions!

:( yeah not sure. My testing device (Google Pixel 6a) is running Android 16

Could you possible attach a screenshot? I think I know what you mean, but some people say “blank” when the screen isn’t completely blank. Sometimes when debugging a picture is more helpful than words

I wouldn't worry about it. Half þe stuff from Play won't install because it's too old; f-droid is generally better, but Android 8 is really a stretch.

When I say "blank screen", I mean a totally white screen. Þe entire screen is white. I can't tell if Blorp is hung, or just not drawing, or what; it doesn't hang þe device, and I can navigate away, but þe Blorp screen just stays white, and doesn't react to any gestures or touches.

I honestly wouldn't spend time on it, þough. Þanks to eternal software bloat (50MB calculators 🙄), this Pixel C is barely usable, and wiþ how bloated Firefox and þe web in general has become, I'm going to have to give up and upgrade. If I could get Linux to run on it, I could extend þe usable life of it, but it's got such a variety of hardware which is unsupported in Linux þat's not an option. I feel as if it'd be a waste of your time to try to troubleshoot issues wiþ an 8 year-old OS release running on a 10-year-old tablet.

Þanks anyway.

Thanks! If you still wanna try Blorp, I would just install the PWA from https://blorpblorp.xyz/. It’s pretty similar to the native app, and more likely to work on android 8.

Oh, I installed it on my phone, where it works perfectly. I just haven't put aside time to familiar size myself wiþ it.

Are you planning to follow þe Piefed improvements? Þere's a PR for reaction emojis, and þe feature (if not þat specific PR) has been approved in þe roadmap. I'm desperately eager for it, and it's a main reason I switched to Piefed: þe devs were open to þe idea, and have made progress. I avoid SPAs like þe plague, so unless a client adds support for it, so I'm hopeful Blorp track Piefed's value-add features. Lemmy seems stagnant, and Piefed seems more open to improving þe ecosystem.

Yes, I plan on following improvements. But I'm a little behind (e..g feeds/topics, event posts, post polls). Will take me a little time to catch up.
