My shop has a push door that also has a handle with a thumb lever, the number of people that try pushing the door without touching the handle is astronomical. They push and that does not work so they grab the handle and pull it, which also does not work. Then they stare through the window and see other customers then blankly stare at the door.
At one point I put instructions in the window next to the handle and that seemed to confuse people even more.
The building is historic, and I do not own it so I am limited in what I can do with the handle.
Not my actual door handle, but it is this style.
