"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985

Maybe not maintained in a literal sense but TOR was created with the help of US law enforcement and intelligence agencies and they more than likely still operate nodes.
To go further, the internet itself was designed for mass surveillance and narrative control.
Not saying this makes your point null or anything but I find it funny that despite this the first "online transaction" was for marijuana.
That is funny

Well invidious and Duckplayer isn't working in my area, anymore so I found an article, anyway. I knew they were messing with ublock because a few videos cut off at the end last week. Thanks though.
That is why I linked youtube. I don't like it either but Invidious and other players have been having some serious issues lately. The articles looked a little "tabloidy" for me but if it works it works!
YT straight up is like gas station restrooms: I'm not above it, but I'd rather not. And yes the articles were baity but archiver still works for now, so there's that.
It's weird too because so far that's the only video duck wouldn't handle.
If lemmygrad had user taglines this would certainly be a candidate
