Rule 1: Be Civil, Not SinisterTreat others like fellow employees, not enemies in the breakroom.

  • No harassment, dogpiling, or brigading
  • No bigotry (transphobia, racism, sexism, etc.)
  • Respect people’s time and space. We’re here to laugh, not to loathe

Wouldnt actually work i think. Would just seriously injure the back of your throat.

The kinetic energy of the arrow is zero when he lets go and it will immediately hit a wall which means it never gets to accelerate. So it would just feel like someone is pushing that arrow against your throat with the weight behind it being equal to the draw strength required of the bow. The penetration power of an arrow comes from all the accumulated kinetic energy imparted during the firing being instantaneously released into the target.

What I wanna know is, when making this picture did he have any way to guarantee it doesn't go off by accident?

Most likely just used a barely taught string. Not an actual bowstring.

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

Probably a really, really weak bow. Maybe a blunted arrow, too, just to be safe

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 2 points 4 months ago

Doesn't look like a real bow to me. The surface seems uneven and there's no grip.

Pretty sure the potential energy on that bow and string with a sharp enough arrow would definitely work. That energy, if released is going somewhere.

If it has a sharp arrowhead I gotta wonder if it's enough force to pierce

Gotta use a crossbow and aim at eye.

Same issue kinda, although less because the eye is soft enough to allow much more acceleration. The bolt only reaches its full killing potential once it has finished coming out of the crossbow and the string is in its un-drawn straight position.

I was gonna say that infections (back then) would prob be the killer, rather than the penetration, but wouldn't an english longbow be powerful enough? To simplify, is the effectiveness of bow suicide tied to society?
