I don't know how many times it needs to be said -

Trump is profoundly mentally ill, and really quite obviously so.

That dynamic by which he can and does hurl the vilest insults at other people then cry about how "nasty" someone is for saying something negative about him is just one of the many indicators of his profound mental illness

He's both a malignant narcissist and a sociopath, and with the emotional maturity of a toddler. He tries to maintain his self-conception as the bright center of the universe by tearing down anyone who might undermine or even merely compete with him, and he has no real understanding of morals, principles, integrity or empathy, or even really that other people are actual people in their own right. He's entirely self-centered and entirely amoral, opportunistic and immune to the suffering of others.

Alongside that, he has an ego that's so grotesquely inflated that it's been stretched tissue-thin, and thus must be actively protected on an ongoing basis.

And again, sociopathic and narcissistic as he is, he sees anything that threatens his overinflated ego as a deliberate and unjustified attack on him.

And he reaffirms the truth of that assessment virtually every single day.
