My brother was an air traffic controller for 11 years. The money was actually really good. And the perks are nice. The stress and drama...um, not cool. I don't have the brains for it, but my brother has very few good things to say about it. Tho it did fund his lifestyle and led him to be very successful.
Yeah, there are things to compensate for the stress, but for us at least not remotely enough to deal with the work, especially as the US continues to act insane with respect to people doing the work. And that's part of the thing that I'm pointing to - now, you can't even depend on the compensation. You can suddenly be expected to work for more than a month without pay and with no rights not to. The one thing the job had going for it is the golden handcuffs, and it turns out they're actually gold-ish handcuffs, and your wrists are turning green...
