Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Good Lord, have you seen the stories #thebirdspapaya just posted about having loose skin, stretch marks and being on the "red carpet"? Does Sarah Nicole Landry think she's a "red carpet hero" for women aged 40 who have popped out a couple of kids? She thinks she's groundbreaking and extraordinary... "stretch marks and loose skin didn't limit my opportunities". Of course, they didn't. Many trailblazing women before you cleared the way. How? They had talent and skill, and they earned their moments of celebration. Then they showed up to those celebrations as human beings, with normal bodies.

Dumb-dum, your body and your manipulation skills GAVE you your red carpet opportunities. You never had these opportunities before because you NEVER worked for them or worked towards anything. Sarah, please don't forget you didn't earn these opportunities based on merit. You aren't on the red carpet (for a direct-to-streaming B movie) because you have talent or skills. You are there because you made your perceived limitations into a cash grab. You played with people's self-esteem by drawing attention to what you decided were flaws. You positioned yourself as the unicorn who magically overcame self-esteem challenges. You found the secret sauce and sold it with a skin-covered cup and a Knix bra.

I wish The Birds Papaya followers, supporters and the idiotic media that applauded her had a sense of history or the ability to think for themselves, because Jane Mansfield, Lana Turner, Bette and Joan, Liza, Marilyn, Sophia Loren and many other REAL STARS would like a word with the Bird. Why? Sarah's not broken any ground. She's not a first to anything. Most importantly, I think Hattie McDaniel would like a word. Sarah obviously doesn't know who Hattie McDaniel is... Hattie was an Oscar-winning actress, and in 1940, she wasn't allowed to walk the red carpet (use the main entrance) at the Academy Award ceremony because the venue had a "no blacks" policy. Gone with the Wind producer David O. Selznick had to call in a special favour with the hotel management just for McDaniel to be allowed into the building at all. Even though Hattie was allowed to attend, she was required to enter through a different entrance and sit at a small, isolated table at the back of the room, separated from her white co-stars, including Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.

@thebirdspapaya should take note. Be a little humble. She's not an actor, producer, or crew member. She contributed nothing to the film she "walked the red carpet" for. She's a glitch in the marketing matrix. Sarah Nicole Landry walked the red carpet because she lied and manipulated better than others. Perhaps the talented icons listed here never made a massive deal about stretch marks, loose skin, and softer bellies because they genuinely liked themselves. And unlike Sarah, they fought against discrimination and limitations. Ms. McDaniel fought it all.

Sarah is such a fucking narcissist. Can she ever make anything about anyone else!!!! What's the movie about?? FFS.

This is so well stated and beautifully crafted. Thank you. I think Elizabeth Taylor had many more ebbs and flows with her weight than this charlatan and more talent in her pinkie fingernail. The women cited are real women with incredible talent and this one walks around claiming she’s changed the world - it’s shameful.

Liz would probably slap the bird. :)

Ugh. Obsessed with her own body, when nobody else is. Nobody shows up to a red carpet with people talking about stretch marks UNDER their outfit. Get over it. Hilarious that she preaches self love, with a face full of glam make up for a family movie. Come back and make a post when you’re brave enough to show up like Pamela Anderson. Until that time, word vomit about a self loving trailblazer cosplay.

This should be pinned.

Wow.... She's really setting womanhood back with this. Who ever let stretch marks stop them? Like what???? Not to mention the above photos of her in that bikini with those amazing stretch marks filtered right off. She's a head case. Someone stop her.
