Uh, I heard it in the news.
Iirc, the ICO (data protection regulator) preliminarily found that imgur was selling user data to advertisers, having been profiling users for age band (including children).
They then threatened imgur with a fine if they didn't agree steps to protect children's data, but imgur decided to protest by geoblocking the country.
ICO say that liability for previous illegal sale of children's data does not disappear, and imgur blame it on the much less popular online safety act, which is weird because the investigation started well before the act came into force.
Imgur were also shitty because they deleted a vast amount of older images because the posters didn't have a subscription with them, which kind of betrays the whole original point of the website.
I think they also sacked the original creators, but I may be mixing them up with another rapidly shittifying webcorp.
