Enjoy it while it lasts.

Having lived through 2008 and 'Hope and Change', I don't expect much out of Mamdani. I'd love to be wrong about that.

Here's hoping a democratic socialist turns out to be more progressive than your standard "not actually liberal" democrat.

I'm hoping a democratic socialist outperforms a corporate Democrat. He's going to face a lot of push back so it's going to be a struggle.

I think it won't be for lack of trying. He will be stymied at every turn by the city council, oligarchs, feds, etc.

I don't think he can bring hope and change, overcoming the status quo is decades of work at muitiple levels of government supported continuously by voters.

Cumo could make it worse though.

The big mistake of 2008 was thinking electing Obama was sufficient. He'd go get it all done from there.

Doesn't work that way. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

The big mistake was believing him at all.

He got plenty of it done, but his policies were oppressive and he fucking lied to us about it.

Yeah, I totally felt oppressed while Obama was president.

Must not have had to pay a mortgage, or interact with cops, or be a brown person in the wrong country, or a kid in a cage, or stuck in a torture chamber in Gitmo, or use health care, etc. etc. etc.

It all happened. You just ignored it, same as with Genocide Joe.

Watch "Yes, Minister" for more background.

It's ancient but it totally still applies.

You're right. They all get absorbed by the corrupting blob.
