I'm not sure about this specific location, but I have seen similar structures (including being inside one) as a foreign visitor. There is something quite striking/humbling about large statues or similar structures when they dwarf anything in the area. They definitely give me a more surreal vibe in comparison to natural formations that stand out in similar ways.
Sendai Daikannon. It is the tallest statue of a goddess in Japan and the tenth-tallest statue in the world, at 100 metres.

That shot from a distance is pretty wild as well, though I appreciate the detail in the closer shot more.
I'm originally from St. Louis, although i haven't lived there in 20 years. But anytime i am coming in, that first glance at the Arch makes me feel like i am coming home. Massive monuments make for such a great symbol for a city since they show what the people are capable of achieving.
