The us has 15k shot children a year?
Edit: Checked the numbers, tldr meme kinda checks out
The us has 902 Billionaires in 2025 according to wikipedia citing forbes, up from 813 in 2024.
gunviolencearchive.org gives 4410 (12-17) and 797 (0-11) children shot (injured or killed) in 2024, and even more in 2021-2023.
Since the proportion of 11y.o. and under is low, and also the proportion of accidents was quite low at 5% in 2021, it seems plausible almost all those cases are of school-age children going to school.
It does not mean the schootings happened at school ofc., which to me the meme sounded like it implied at first.
Using 2024, if we take 6% off of the schootings for children we hit exactly 2 months. If we use rounding we could take out 25% of shootings for various reasons and the meme would still hold.
Edit2: 2 months might be enough for some of those surviving billionaires to get patched up and healed out ofc, so I recommend to keep going another few months just in case.
According to this source and my admittedly fallible math skills, yes.
https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/resources/gun-violence-facts/
I also checked the numbers and the article doesn't match. Its 44 per day figure would get to 16k, but their source starts "Between 2000 and 2020, the number of firearm-related deaths among children, adolescents, and young adults increased from 6998 (7.30 per 100,000 persons) to 10,186 (10.28 per 100,000 persons), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).".
That is lower and also includes "young adults".
I haven't looked deeper into it, but assume the article is doing some odd thing like distributing cases over school-days only.
No, there’s only 2800 billionaires
I was extrapolating from the 2 months figure. 2800 should be last years global number of billionaires, the us listed "only" 800. This matches to 5k shot children which checks out.
god bless burgerland
