Is the wording standard of the ads of that era? It's so awkwardly written.

Yeah, I don't really find it that awkward. The copywriters of that time were trying to make ads much more personal though, so not nearly as much corporate-speak like we get today. It was all like, "Would you like it if..." and "You're gonna love this..." kinda vibes.
