so if the romans conquer europe they're civilizing europe (good), but if the europeans do the same with africa they're evil imperialists (bad)?

Romans WERE civilized, unlike later Europeans :)

well, romans were advanced in technology etc compared to the rest of europe, just like the europeans were compared to africa
