I saw that this user is constantly reposting from other instances, it's basically all they do.

I could just block them, but I was wondering

  • is this maybe just a bot?
  • is it against the rules?

Ideally, they'd crosspost instead of repost. And I think this is against the very idea of the instance federation.

It's really more a question than a call for action.

? This isn't how it works. Any repost of the same link is a crosspost. What do you even mean by this?

When you crosspost, it's basically a link to the post in the "original" instance.

However, following the information in the comments, I now understand the rationale behind not doing it.
