After moving in to our new server last month, our next large project is to set up some new Fediverse platforms. One of the most requested of those was Pixelfed, which is an image sharing platform.

You should be able to sign up here: pixelfed.ca

As with any new instance, some issues are to be expected and while we've done some testing already, please bear with us as things get going. For any support related issues with pixelfed.ca, please post in the new !pixelfed@lemmy.ca community

@Shadow@lemmy.ca am I missing something with how federation works? I'm trying to follow the admin over at stux@pixey.org; I am able to search for them and I can see the account but there are 0 posts.

I can see there are some posts on the Global feed from accounts on .social, so I guess I'm just not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it'll just take a bit to sync up.

Unfortunately I don't think historical posts are pulled in, just things that have happened since our server started watching their server. If you follow them you'll see any future things they make (as will other users on our server).

I see a similar issue with following hashtags. For example, I search for '#photography' which displayed a load of results across instances by said '0 posts'. I followed it and none of the cross instance hashtag results appear in my home feed.

Presumably it is only looking at the pixelfed.ca instances of '#photography' but this seems against the point of the whole thing no?

When I log in to my pixelfed.social account, doing the same thing pulls in results across different instances to the same homes screen (using the Pixelix app), so I'm not sure what the difference is.
