In a world where all parties are surveiling you, it makes the most sense to pick the one with the least power over you. Meta and x have people in the US federal government, and even most fediverse instances are hosted in five eyes countries.

Ideally it'd be neither. Both Chinese and American spyware are equally bad imo (keep in mind that I'm not American so your point doesn't exactly apply)

Its kind of weird hearing people debate on which spyware is worse. I mean, they're both spyware??? But I agree that it's safer to use foreign spyware than local spyware.

If only loops was ready at the time..

I hope Loops becomes good. It's too soon to tell if it will ever be ready. It's good that they have a working alpha-release in app stores that people can download on their devices, but they have a long, long way to go.
