Looking to put an order in to pre-order the new Explosions in the Sky and pick up Heaven Vol. 1 from Mono. I only have Big Bend and The World is... from Explosions and Under the Pipal by Mono. Also own almost all Mogwai albums.

Any rec's for post rock essentials to pick up. Could use more Explosions. I unfortunately don't know too much Maserati. Also saw Grails had a new release coming out and unfamiliar with their work.

Thanks

I've stumbled upon this band a while ago but today it came up on my playlist and I wanted to share it. The song that I'm linking is on the heavier side.

Some facts about the band

PSOTY(originally known as Pet Slimmers of the Year) is an English post-metal/post-rock band from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The musical group was founded in January 2008, by guitarist and vocalist Scott Gowan, bass guitarist Steve McKenna, and drummer Dale Vinten, who had previously played together in the progressive/post-rock band A Thousand Fires.

New album "End" from EitS. Slighty different sound than usual (less crescendo, more texture), but still pretty good IMHO.

I love the band but calling them Post-Rock is a stretch for me. What do you guys think?

Until 2003, Godspeed You! Black Emperor had a cellist, Norsola Johnson, which I think gave them a very unique sound especially in the album linked (Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven). However, while they do have a violin in the new albums, the sound is quite different.

What other bands use cello? This patch of sky is one (and fantastic), but they disbanded in 2019. Gregor Samsa used to have one but they swapped to violin as well (and their style was very different anyway). Three Silver MtZion doesn't have their cellist anymore as well.

underrated band: Ranges (ranges.bandcamp.com)

I don't know if it's only me, but I really like what this band do. And I rarely see them mentioned anywhere. When someone mentions post-rock, it's usually bands like Sigur Ros, God is an astronaut, Mogwai, Mono... Ranges? Barely ever, at least in my social circles. So here you go, try and listen. Maybe you'll like them as I do.

Today I’ve listened to Vespertine by This Will Destroy You for the first time and it’s a magnificent record.

Garden - the song I'm linking to - is a 22 minute beast that just melts with beauty. Have a listen!
