I set out with the goal of upgrading my NAS. that's how this all started. However my girlfriends PC also needed a GPU. She has been running games on a ryzen 5 3400G for awhile now.

I thought, hey, I can pick up a 1660 super for about $100 on the bay, she can pop that in her system and when she wants to upgrade to something better I can throw the 1660 super into the NAS for transcoding.

I've been talking about upgrading my NAS for awhile. It's running a phenom II and DDR3 ram. It's about time. Well, I also have a x470 mobo in my storage unit, but then I got to thinking... it's kinda overkill for a NAS and my girlfriend has an A320 mobo in her system. It would be better to use the A320 in the NAS and give her the x470.

Okay, well, now I need a new CPU for the NAS. And actually... my girlfriends 3400G would be perfect. I have to buy a new CPU anyway, so why not get her a good CPU and I'll use the 3400G in the NAS... yes this is good.

Hop over to the bay again and I found I could get her a 3600x for about $100. However... I could get her a 5700x3d for $185... it's only $85 more and it's arguably the best gaming CPU on the AM4 platform. Okay I'm doing it.

Well, now her system is a little lopsided. A 5700x3d with a 1660 super? Blasphemous.

I picked up a Rx 7600 for about $200 from B&H.

To recap. I wanted to build myself a new NAS. ended up building her a new gaming PC and basically using her old PC as the new NAS.

She went from a PC running a Ryzen 3400G to a system with a Ryzen 5700x3d and a Rx 7600 w/ 32 gigs of ram. All because I wanted to upgrade my NAS.

Parts will show up next week.
