One quite annoying Lemmy behaviour is when you search for a community that has many results spanning multiple screens (e.g. query “software”), the list is largely clusterfucked with crappy centralised instances that go against the #fedi philosophy (e.g. #lemmyWorld, #ShItjustWorks, #lemmyCa, #LemmyZip, #programmingDev, etc).

I discovered a fix: ctrl-rt-click on every community in the list to open each in a tab. Then click “block community”, then repeat the search. It works the way it should: blocked communities are excluded from search results.

Wish I realised that sooner.. would have saved me some effort and frustration in trying to search only for communities in the decentralised free world.

I’ve posted twice to !law@links.esq.social. The first post was 6 months ago and the other today. There is no interaction. I just thought it was a dead community, but when I directly visit this page:

https://links.esq.social/c/law?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New

neither of my posts appear. This behavior is like being shadow banned. Does Lemmy support that? I thought not. But also I did’t post anything really controversial.. nothing that I would imagine warranting a shadow ban.

Can other people see the sopuli copy of my posts? They are:

(edit) If I visit the sopuli version of the timeline:

https://sopuli.xyz/c/law@links.esq.social

from a logged out browser, the posts are there. So indeed they must be visible to everyone but only those who visit sopuli’s version of the timeline. Not sure what’s going on here because it’s not a ghost node (links.esq.social is still online).

I can post to !cashless_society@nano.garden, no problem. But then when visiting nano.garden there is no Lemmy server there.

What I think is going on: nano.garden was once a Lemmy server that federated to Sopuli, Sopuli users subscribed, and then nano.garden ghosted us.. disappeared. Yet posts can still be composed and old posts are still viewable locally. Participants carry on with the illusion that nano.garden exists.

Amiright? What are the consequences? Does this mean Sopuli users can only see new posts that come from other Sopuli users going forward?

I have wanted to link a community a couple of times, but didn't because it seems unclear how to do it actually well. I've managed to do it once, I think. Another time didn't manage.
Maybe there should be a clear and simple to use button in the format area to add a community link?

I have pending subscriptions for several days now, and I can't seem to find any information what has caused this or if this problem is something that is up to me as an user

When looking at posts from "all", after a while suddenly the top of the post queue starts loading in new posts. These posts seem to be very old with little activity. Is this a bug or some functionality I'm misunderstanding? This seems to happen both when sorting "hot" and "activity" is selected
