Wikipedia [en]: "Doom is a 1993 first-person shooter game developed and published by id Software for MS-DOS. It is the first installment in the Doom franchise. [...] The source code for Doom was released under a non-commercial license in 1997, and freely released under the GNU General Public License in 1999. Due to the release of its source code, Doom has been unofficially ported to numerous platforms. These ports include esoteric devices such as smart thermostats, pianos, and Doom itself, which led to variations of a long-running meme, "Can it run Doom?" and "It runs Doom".

CSS is DOOMed
No, CSS is awesome. CSS is better than ever and it is only getting better. And that is why I built DOOM in CSS. Every wall, floor, barrel, and imp is a , positioned in 3D space using CSS transforms. The game logic runs in JavaScript, but the rendering is entirely CSS. You can play it right now.

Der weiterentwickelte Chip spielt den Ego-Shooter so gut wie ein Anfänger. Vor allem der Fortschritt zur ersten Chipgeneration ist bemerkenswert.

Das noch nicht ganz überzeugende Ergebnis lässt sich im Video von Cortical Labs nachverfolgen.

This is a longer video (24 min), diving a bit into the hardware's origin and details. In my eyes not so hard to run Doom on WinXP, but very hard to find an industrial cake machine :)

According to modder Tr7zw, getting a version of Vanilla Mocha Doom running in Hytale before it's even out took two or three relatively sleepless nights of work. For that sacrifice, their character can stand in the sky above the landscape and Doom away on a monitor made of blocks.

Mehrere Sicherheitsforscher haben sich die Ladestation Alpitronic HYC50 vorgenommen und am Ende lief darauf der Ego-Shooter „Doom“. Dafür gab es 20.000 US-Dollar. Aus Sicherheitsgründen gibt es zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt keine weiterführenden Details über die im Wettbewerb ausgenutzten Sicherheitslücken. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass die Auto- und Ladesäulenhersteller schnell reagieren und zeitnah Sicherheitspatches veröffentlichen.
