The current way to add an emoji reaction on Android is the following:

  1. Click the three dots' menu button
  2. Choose React...
  3. Choose Other...
  4. Tap the text field saying "Enter an emoji"
  5. Press the smiley button next to the space key.
  6. Find the desired emoji
  7. Tap on the emoji

This is quite a chore, actually!

Firstly, I'd request for at least the top5 emojis used by me to show right after I've tapped React.... Preferably 10.
Secondly, if the "Enter an emoji" text field was active immediately, it would reduce one click from the process even if I'm using some emoji I use less often.

The API is probably not providing everything Blorp needs to make this really sing. I'll add that to the list now that Blorp has started making a move towards reaction support.

Anything specific that you are going to add regarding emoji reactions? I assumed emojis were more of a UI problem. I really want expanded feed support, which I think is more blocked by the API than emojis.

PieFed does this

Its pretty good

That one doesn't have all of the reactions I need, so I often need to fire up Blorp, find the conversation and do the 7-step process.

But yeah, the emoji button on PieFed is better than Blorp's menu --> React...

100% want to make this menu better. Just haven’t gotten to it yet. Other examples (e.g. PieFed official ui or other) are super helpful

The current Blorp emoji picker is pretty bad. I was thinking about just making it a scrollable grid of emojis you can pick from and maybe search. Basically the same as the emoji keyboard on your phone.

The emoji keyboard on my phone is doing a mighty good job for picking emojis. Evoking its strength takes quite a lot of convincing, though. The ability to copypaste any emoji into the field is cool, though! I mean, you can write whole (simple) words with the Chinese script! :D
