Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 on federal sex trafficking charges, including conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, participation in a sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking of a minor. Epstein, a wealthy and socially connected financier, died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
