I learned years ago that it is perfectly acceptable to "Just Say No" to social engagements that are more draining than rewarding. My mental health is more important to me than the approval of a bunch of people that I do not respect, including most of my family.

I had guests over for new year's. Having guests for 2 days was considerably less draining than one evening with my family ...
