There are far better reasons to not buy TP-Link gear than Chinese spying.

It's not just one router model, they're talking about banning ALL TP-Link products:

The Commerce Department has reportedly proposed banning sales of devices from California-based TP-Link Systems, a company whose products make up over a third of the home router market, according to The Washington Post.

Tp link cameras I have no problem with. I have one of their routers and the parental controls - you have to pay us monthly to use is bullshit. I don't think it's ever gotten an update either. It's a solid router otherwise. That being said I will go for an openwrt router next time.
